How Corralling Operational Technology in PI Improved Operational Awareness at UMD
Grand Ballroom
Over the past 28 months, the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) has made significant advancements in its campus infrastructure management and 3rd-party services provider performance using the OSIsoft PI System. Improvements in billing accuracy and reliability, multi-system integration, infrastructure monitoring and outage alerts, and access to new data and visualizations have initiated the transformation of UMCP’s Facilities Management (FM) team from a reactive service model to an integrated, service management-focused organization. Utilizing newly centralized data from five sources and products including PI Vision and PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS, UMCP’s PI System is facilitating the realization of:
  • Faster electrical outage response times of up to 90 minutes
  • Up to 60% reduction in classroom energy use
  • Up to $500,000 annually in cost avoidance from mechanical room flood prevention.
With almost 450 buildings, over 15.5m gross square feet, and an on-campus Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant, these results will have wide-ranging benefits for the entire UMCP community.

Securing Manufacturing Industrial Control Systems: Behavioral Anomaly Detection
Grand Ballroom

Industrial Control Systems (ICS) are used in many industries to monitor and control physical processes. As ICS continue to adopt standard commercial information technology (IT) solutions to promote corporate business systems connectivity and remote access capabilities they become more vulnerable to cyber threats.  The National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE), in conjunction with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Engineering Laboratory (EL), has demonstrated a set of behavioral anomaly detection capabilities to support cybersecurity in manufacturing organizations. Use of these capabilities enables manufacturers to detect anomalous conditions in their operating environments to mitigate malware attacks and other threats to the integrity of critical operational data. NIST’s NCCoE and EL have mapped these demonstrated capabilities to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) and documented how this set of standards-based controls can support many of the security requirements of manufacturers.

The PI System and the Greater Technology Landscape
Grand Ballroom
It's a data driven world.  For those of us here, it is an operational data driven world.  Some believe that working with operational data is difficult -- time series, relational, unstructured ... If you are new to the PI System, pay close attention in this session as we reveal how the PI System can demystify data; and make your life a whole lot easier.

10:05 AM - 10:35 AM
Pervasive Data Collection – All the Ways to Collect Your Data
Grand Ballroom
2018 is going to be an exciting year for collecting your data. We call it Pervasive Data Collection. Come see what we have in plan for data collection in 2018 and what the future holds as we expand functionality down to the Edge and up to the Cloud.

Analytics: It’s what you do with the data that counts
Grand Ballroom
Industrial Analytics is the buzz of the day. Big data, data lakes, machine learning and artificial intelligence are offering the allure of new insights and answers to efficiencies. However sometimes the first big win comes from a small improvement and the data your already own. Learn how you can break down seemingly complex big data problems into a manageable sequence of steps with the PI System. Even without waiting for completion of a full-blown statistical model, your operational experts can often spot anomalous patterns with little more than a few events captured by PI System event frames and compiled in a report. And when you are ready to push data to advanced machine learning (ML) tools, the PI Integrator line is available to jump-start your data science initiative with clean, ready-to-consume, reliable data.

Sustainability: Turning your energy and water into business savings
Grand Ballroom
Energy and water is a significant operational expense. A 1% decrease can result in huge financial savings, as well as create a more sustainable process for the environment. To squeeze out the last increments of energy and water efficiencies requires data and data analytics. In this session, you’ll see how you can quickly access disparate data coming from legacy and new IoT sources to deliver smart, real-time dashboards that drives visibility across the enterprise. And that monthly compliance report? Real-time PI System reports allow you to continuously monitor and be alerted to compliance deviations before they become an issue.

LEARNING SESSION: Timesaving Tips While Deploying PI Asset Framework (AF) - Advance Registration Required
Grand II
After attending multiple sessions at the Super Regional, you've heard about the Power of Asset Framework (AF),  At this point, you're likely eager to implement AF or maybe expand the existing AF structure in your organization but may not be sure where to start.  Or maybe you're wondering if there are any timesaving tips for deploying scalable and consistent AF structures.
In this session we'll demonstrate a simple AF structure from the ground-up using the recommendations, specifically:
  • How to use templates to start creating AF elements and attributes across assets
  • How to achieve a well-designed structure, plan for the usefulness of the AF model
  • How to use categories to organize large numbers of elements and attributes
  • How to set explicit Unit of Measures (UOMs)
  • How to use inherited templates to allow flexibility while maintaining standardization
  • How to build different views for your users using elements references
  • How to fine-tune the asset model using attributes, hierarchies, enumeration sets and data references

We are being asked to run equipment longer, faster and harder with less resources while minimizing failures. Condition based maintenance takes a data driven approach to maximizing the performance of your assets and maintenance schedules. Discover through drag and drop configuration how the PI System can be used for condition based maintenance. Configure digital representations of your assets, calculate key performance indicators (KPIs), and even send notifications or kick off maintenance work flows based on the real condition of your assets. Kick-starting your CBM project has never been easier with the modern PI System.
