Bringing It All Together:
Real Time Capacity Monitoring

After years of manually stitching together data from a number of disparate sources, the Energy Queensland plant ratings team now has access to realtime, weather-adjusted overhead line ratings across Queensland. Made possible through the PI System, the team can now focus on identifying constraints, maximising utilisation and making informed augmentation decisions.

9:15 AM - 10:00 AM
Keynote - The PI System: Empowering People to do Successful Analytics

10:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Customer Presentation: Real-Time Data Platform and OISsoft PI System
BHP is undertaking the challenge of building a global real-time data platform that will change the way we think. Instead of creating more point solutions driven by the unique requirements of specific users, we want to empower users to create their own solutions using a platform that is simple enough for non-technical people to configure what they need using the data available. Essentially, we want to teach users to "fish" for themselves, leverage reusable investments (such as pre-existing configurations) and rely on the seamless integration that is inherently available in the platform. We wish to maximise value through utilising the capabilities of the platform and the enablement of users to ensure sustainable and scalable growth.

10:30 AM - 11:00 AM
Break – Tea and Coffee

11:00 AM - 11:45 AM
OSIsoft Technology Update: PI Vision 2019, PI Server 2018 SP2, OSIsoft Cloud Services

In this session we will cover what OSIsoft has been working on for the PI System with new releases and technology (including some live demos!). We aim with every release to make the PI System as robust and secure as possible to meet customers’ data infrastructure needs and also make sure users have easy access to the data they need to perform their jobs.  We will also touch on what is currently in the product pipeline.

11:45 AM - 12:15 PM
Customer Presentation: PI Vision in Western Power’s Network Operations Control Center
This presentation will provide an overview of how PI Vision is being used by Network Operations to provide situational awareness in their control room. In 2018 Network Operations moved from East Perth into a new control room at Head Office that included a number of Video Walls around the facility. PI Vision was chosen as the main technology to deliver the required displays and a library of them have since been developed. This presentation will provide an overview of the Video Walls and displays in use in Network Operations and how PI Vision has been harnessed to meet their requirements.

12:15 PM - 12:45 PM
Customer presentation: Value-Focused Improvements in Real-Time using PI Server Asset Framework
This presentation covers the development and deployment of real-time constraint visualisation tools and includes a case study showing how the tools can be used to drive focus of technical specialists.

The case study covers one of many improvements enabled by the constraint visualisation tools and explains how the information conveyed by the tools allowed Process Control Specialists to focus their efforts and drive bottom-line improvements.

The session also covers a quick overview of some of the other tools developed for the Process Control team and explains how they are used to drive value.

12:45 PM - 1:45 PM

2:00 PM - 2:45 PM
Enabling IT/OT Convergence: Operations Data and Advanced Analytics

Integrating OT and IT data can present challenges however the insight and value it brings to operations and analytics are worth the effort. OSIsoft and the PI System, as an Enterprise Data Infrastructure solution, can offer ways of organising and contextualising operational data so it can be combined with business data for advanced analytics (e.g. machine learning and AI, pattern recognition, big data analytics). We will have a look at some of the technology and also an approach to reduce the uncertainty in this convergence.

2:45 PM - 3:15 PM
Customer presentation: Real-time Operational Protection and Cost-control for Mine Critical Assets
Modern mining operations are highly productive systems that aim for continuous processing where reducing unexpected interruptions adds measurable efficiencies. GET (Ground Engaging Tool) breakage events on diggers can cause significant interruptions, impacting production and crusher throughput, and are a severe safety risk to recovery personnel.

GET Trakka has developed a commercial IIoT solution to detect breakages using wireless embedded sensor technology back-ended on a PI System architecture. Sensor data is collected on the mining asset and securely transferred to a centralised PI Cloud Server. The data is analysed to provide mine site personnel breakage alerts in real time, critical to enabling rapid recovering of the broken GET and keeping downtime to an absolute minimum.

GET Trakka has developed a suite of offerings such as real-time visualisation and automated reporting that utilise PI Analytics at their core to provide light-weight powerful solutions. In need of higher-level processing on the asset, the journey has now led to the application of PI System on the Edge. Network disruptions, shadows and latency are well known challenges in mining environments and a key driver for processing data on the Edge. Beyond this, the GET Trakka embedded sensor technology combined with PI System on the Edge processing enables the generation of unique process variables and event notifications. Data Analytics from the asset and on the asset.

3:15 PM - 3:45 PM

3:45 PM - 4:15 PM
Customer Presentation: IoT Applications Within the Mining Process
The future of mining operations lies in the ability to understand and leverage data. Learn how the Mining Productivity Solutions team walks alongside mining leaders and teams to identify and implement data-based solutions with practical action to improve revenue, costs, processes, equipment health and productivity.

4:15 PM - 4:45 PM
Customer Presentation: Recognising Abnormal
TRONOX's Bunbury pigment plant is developing a data analytics system using PI Server Asset Framework and PI Vision to automatically detect when the plant and equipment performance deviates from expected standards.

The system compares actual plant performance as represented by data in the plant's PI System data historian.  It uses a combination of Theoretical and Relational models and Standard Specifications coded into PI Server Framework to recognise deviations and generate PI Server Event Frames.  The PI Server Event Frames are used to drive role-specific Alert lists in PI Vision for review, action and acknowledgement.

The presentation will discuss:
•    The context for the development
•    The features of the system and an example of how the method can be used to improve plant OEE.
•    Issues encountered in the development
