Your time is valuable, that is why OSIsoft is pleased to offer a collection of courses that provide the maximum impact for your investment of time. OSIsoft Tech Labs, brought straight to you from our PI World conferences, are designed to showcase the latest tools and technologies and help you to achieve value from the PI System. Whether you want to learn how to effectively build displays using PI Vision 2019, need tips for deploying PI Asset Framework (AF) or want to drive initiatives such as Machine Learning, IoT or Data Science with the PI System, we have something to offer you. Our labs are run by experienced OSIsoft engineers and trainers who can share their experiences while giving practical Hands-On access to our cloud Learning Environments.

 

Requirements:

  • OSIsoft Tech Labs are BYOD (Bring your own device) sessions. This means you need to bring your own laptop to complete the exercises during the Tech Lab. We are unable to provide any laptop/computer if you don't bring one.
  • Your laptop must be able to connect to a WiFi access point provided by OSIsoft, and has pre-installed modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge or IE11).

Building Displays with PI Vision 2019
Discover why PI Vision is truly the next generation of PI System visualization. Create, format and organize your displays with graphics, multi-state values, and trends. Configure dashboards that automatically search for the assets of interest and intelligently set the context as you navigate. Migrate existing PI ProcessBook displays into fully featured and editable PI Vision displays. Select data items from your displays and send to the reimagined Ad-hoc Workspace for further analysis.

Analysing PI System Data with Microsoft Power BI
This lab is intended for PI users desiring to learn a new tool for agile, ad hoc, process data analysis. We will be using Microsoft Power BI to analyze PI Views published by the PI Integrator for Business Analytics.  The hands-on examples help students appreciate of how multidimensional data analysis can help gain command of large datasets through filtering and grouping of process measurements. The lab will cover other relevant features like how to expand the scope of your analysis by including data from other sources, applying statistical evaluations of your data and by defining measures for benchmarking and advanced analysis. Visualizations include a brief overview of R and Python possibilities. If you’ve become frustrated trying to manage today’s mega-spreadsheet, this lab might have the answer for you.

Using PI Asset Framework (AF) to Analyze Asset Performance
Calculation of and immediate feedback on wind turbine performance is an important part of maximizing revenue. Waiting for a daily or monthly rundown of performance can cost thousands of dollars of lost production each day. Monthly reporting costs precious time and resources that could better be used optimizing profit streams for a manager.
 
In this lab, you will learn how to use PI AF to calculate the expected power produced by a turbine from a power curve and give immediate feedback on assets that are not giving their expected output. Although we use wind turbines in this lab, this theory is easily applied to other assets where performance or efficiency curves are involved – pumps, motors, condensers, etc. We will look at tools to build feedback mechanisms into real-time displays as well as creating electronic notifications. You will also learn how to use tools within the PI System to automate reporting functions such as site level rollups and reports of underperforming assets.

Improving PI System Data Quality and Reliability
Are you responsible for the quality of PI data? Do you want to know more about how to monitor data quality with your PI System? Your users, from operations to data scientists want assurance that the data they are using for monitoring key processes, investigating issues and performing analysis is of the appropriate quality – it needs to be accurate, timely, complete and consistent – and conform to your standards. In this session you will:
  • Learn some steps that your organization could take to improve your data quality
  • Understand the key systems and interfaces that are important to monitor and how these could be accomplished in PI
  • Configure Asset Framework to perform simple error detection methods – e.g. check for flat lines in data 
  • Use PI Vision to monitor you data health and data flows
  • See how machine learning could be used to automate error detection
