The Connected Water Utility
The water industry faces serious challenges of aging infrastructure, budget constraints, water resilience, and the need to operate and maintain efficiently with fewer resources. With the prevalence of cheaper smart sensors / devices, Internet of Things, better connectivity, and software, many utilities are embarking on the digital transformation journey. However, what does this all mean for utilities and how do they take advantage of these technologies and massive amounts of data?
This keynote will focus on leading water and wastewater utilities who have embraced and leveraged these digital technologies by creating a data strategy and using their real-time data to drive smarter decisions to reduce opex and capex, increase asset life, meet environmental compliance, etc... while reducing risk.
10:30 AM - 11:00 AM
PI System 101 for the Water Industry
A White Board Discussion which presents the PI System as it functions in the Water Utility

Digital Transformation in Water Production
California Water Service produces over 5 billion gallons of water per year. Our challenge is keeping track of each gallon - its source, cost and location.
PI AF is a perfect architecture for our digital transformation. With just 20 or so AF Templates, we configured calculations for our 1000+ pumps automatically and we aggregate volumes of data from all our pumps into a handful of meaningful production numbers! People now discuss business issues rather than production mechanics.
11:35 AM - 11:55 AM
Utilizing the PI System in Water Operations - City of Riverside
Robin with discuss City of Riverside's experiences with PI System.
12:00 PM - 12:20 PM
Drones and GIS Data ... Can We Use the PI System for this?
California Resource Corporation has a vast asset infrastructure, most with PI System monitoring enabled. The goal was to overlay our real-time monitoring tools (the PI System) with the UAS (Drone) for collection and insights in real time.
12:20 PM - 1:20 PM
The discussions continue over lunch.
