Digital Agility in the Evolving World of Industry 4.0 and IIoT
Automation, IIoT, machine learning, artificial intelligence and augmented reality – the next decade promises to be the digital revolution of the industrial world. Our challenge is integrating legacy systems and assets with new technologies to harness the explosion of data to drive new opportunities without risking existing operations. This keynote will cover the challenges of the digital revolution and best practices for establishing an enterprise data infrastructure to support your digital transformation as you invest in edge, enterprise and cloud technologies.
9:45 AM - 10:30 AM
The Journey Begins - PI System and DCP's Digital Transformation

A foundation of DCP’s digital transformation is having rapid, near real time, accurate, meaningful and complete data with context. An important part of this capability is provided by a company-wide PI system that was deployed in 2017. Change has been rapid, with DCP moving from no centralized means of collecting and using operational data to having 28 gas plant, 500 compressor stations (and their associated gathering systems), and the company’s major interstate pipelines connected to the PI system in 10 months. In parallel with deployment, DCP has put PI to use, building products that support the improved business processes and organizational changes. Two examples of these efforts are our Plant Views (optimizing cryo plant operation) and Compression Health Monitoring (focused on condition-based maintenance). In addition to business benefits totaling >$5MM in 2017, access to near real time data from all parts of our company is central to the effectiveness of a newly established ICC.

10:30 AM - 11:00 AM
Morning Break / Demo Pods Open

11:00 AM - 11:30 AM
Layered Analytics - PI Based Operational Analytics and integration into Big Data and Business Analytics

11:30 AM - 12:15 PM
Process Optimization - Using PI Data in Machine Learning

Digital transformation opportunities often emerge when thought-provoking data becomes readily available for critical, conceptual, innovative and intuitive types of thinking. But data silos and isolated business applications often prevent easy access to data and become obstacles to progress. To get past these obstacles, industrial organizations need a connectable, easy-to-navigate data infrastructure that centralizes all data and transcends both IT and OT silos. Drawing from her experience across a range of industries, LSI’s Jolene Baker discusses how organizations can implement such architectures and, once data is readily accessible, deploy data analytics and pattern recognition tools to create different manipulations or views of the same data to make it specifically relevant to multiple application or business requirements.

12:15 PM - 1:30 PM
Lunch & Demo Pods

1:30 PM - 2:00 PM
CBM: Just Right, Just-in-Time Maintenance
We are being asked to run equipment longer, faster, and harder with less resources while minimizing failures. Condition based maintenance (CBM) takes a data driven approach to maximizing the performance of your assets and maintenance schedules.  Discover how the PI System can be used for CBM through simple drag and drop configuration. Configure digital representations of your assets, calculate key performance indicators (KPIs), and even send notifications or kick off maintenance work flows based on the real condition of your assets.  Jump-starting your CBM project has never been easier with the modern PI System.
2:00 PM - 2:45 PM
Prioritizing Power: How Alectra Energy Used the PI System to Achieve Condition Based Maintenance
Transmission and Distribution assets are aging at utilities all across North America.  Cost and safety concerns are continuing to drive better maintenance decisions and the means to catch failures before thy occur.  Utilities can improve maintenance and capital replacement decisions by using their existing operational data (from a variety of sources) and improve maintenance schedules by using CBM techniques.  Companies have an extremely valuable resource in the operational and asset data that is generated by SCADA, EMS, testing and analysis systems, as well as online sensors and analyzers.  Alectra Utilities has taken a strategic approach to this problem and the PI System is at the center of their strategy.  This presentation will center around describing the problem they saw in front of them, the approach they put in place to address the issue and how the PI System helped to deliver this strategy.  Vince will describe in detail the approach that was taken and why, give examples of what has been implemented and the value they are delivering to maintenance, engineering and operations to make key repair / replace decisions.
2:45 PM - 3:00 PM
Break and Demo Pods

3:00 PM - 3:45 PM
Beat the Sheet:  Escape the Spreadsheet with Automated Reports for Energy Optimization
A picture is worth a thousand words.  That's why executives and managers around the world rely on visual reports and dashboards to stay in touch with the health of their businesses.  Generating these reports is often a tedious, time-consuming task that repeats every month, quarter, or year.  In this session, you’ll see how you can quickly access disparate data coming from both legacy and new IoT sources to deliver smart, real-time dashboards that drive visibility across the enterprise.  And that monthly compliance report?  The PI System allows you to easily refresh reports and be alerted to compliance deviations before they become an issue.

LEARNING SESSION: Timesaving Tips While Deploying PI Asset Framework (AF)
After attending the regional seminar -  you've heard about the Power of Asset Framework (AF),  At this point, you're likely eager to implement AF or maybe expand the existing AF structure in your organization but may not be sure where to start.  Or maybe you're wondering if there are any timesaving tips for deploying scalable and consistent AF structures.
In this session we'll demonstrate a simple AF structure from the ground-up using the recommendations, specifically:
  • How to use templates to start creating AF elements and attributes across assets
  • How to achieve a well-designed structure, plan for the usefulness of the AF model
  • How to use categories to organize large numbers of elements and attributes
  • How to set explicit Unit of Measures (UOMs)
  • How to use inherited templates to allow flexibility while maintaining standardization
  • How to build different views for your users using elements references
  • How to fine-tune the asset model using attributes, hierarchies, enumeration sets and data references
